Nate House
Visual Design Manager
Why did you choose your career in design and photography?
I think I always knew I’d be involved (in some way) in designing/building/fixing/assembling things. When an idea evolves into a reality, it is incredibly satisfying. Whether it’s the fine carpentry — the finishes, textures, fabrics — spaces grand or small, I’m all in.
I feel fortunate that I get to be a part of that process on a daily basis. Also, growing up with “House” as a last name made working in the architectural design field an obvious choice.
What is the best design advice you've been given?
Use less to do more. The less parts and pieces, the less likely something will go wrong.
What is your favorite part of the design process?
It’s a tie between the early “concept” stages of a project and the finishing stages of a project. I consider myself an interpreter. I interpret between the designer and the client. When the design concept is fully embraced and understood, I consider that a success. The final photography, too, is special to me. When I visit a project that our team has brought to life, it’s cathartic. Documenting a project from top to bottom is an incredible sense of closure. Creating a visual record of the incredible work that Via does feels important.
