Via Design Modernizes Grand Haven Board of Light and Power
The Grand Haven Board of Light and Power is a community-owned electric utility servicing homes and businesses in the Grand Haven area with the goal of providing the highest quality electrical service at the lowest practical cost.Since the time it was built in 1989, the building has not received any renovations. When opting for a remodel to their 28-year-old building, the board of Grand Haven Board of Light and Power turned toward the architectural and interior design team at Via Design.
The project involved opening up the floor plan of the office for a more contemporary collaborative space. The results provided a brighter open office with increased work space, a new boardroom addition, and a relocated customer entrance. The furniture in the front of the building was re-purposed and brought to the back area of the building near the modified break room and revitalized bathrooms. Throughout the office, energy efficient products were used for the lighting and roof.
The project was led by architect Nathan Funk and interior designer Justin Stone. The team designed an office layout that integrated the new design scheme inspired by the lakefront community; stacked stone, cedar wood soffit, a rain chain, more glass and natural light. A cohesive selection of carpet tiles, accent walls, new decorative lighting, and material palette pays homage to the beach community in Grand Haven.
